There are some situations that can make data voip solutions difficult to solve. The most common is when the VOIP is performed from one location and must travel to a satellite to another voice over IP. This can cause a delay that can be noticeable. Some of the solutions that have been performed have made the answer something that some may not think about.
With the satellite being like a light switch, which can be turned on and off, the data path of a satellite is much the same way and can transfer data at a fast rate. Still there is a delay and this can cause the data to be jittery and sound choppy. The only solution that has been found is to delay the sound transmission. This makes the sound packets make it to the source and make the person sound proper.
In many cases these are just delayed until so many packets are there then the newer packets are layered right after the last ones in the stream. This makes for a type of buffer and prevents the risk of lag.
This is something that Skype has mastered and has made into something of an art form. They have managed to not only do this with sound but also with video as well so that the voip is streaming at a perfect rate and has no lags to it. There have been many that have become devoted to Skype when this is seen and compared to other services that are still striving to master this one thing.
Some VOIP providers have been brand new and showed many levels of improvements in how things are being done. There are a number of things to this that will be more visible in the course of time. There are still areas that need to be further tuned with many places. At the pace they are going though this will be a very short time indeed.
Most of the methods that the voip has been devised has been based on the concepts of a network and also the instant massagers that are in the world wide web today. The key difference is that voip is taking this many steps beyond what instant messengers even will.

One never imagined a day where he will be able to talk to his loved ones across seas, yet this dream became reality with the invention of telephone. But this was not enough; with the invention of computers & the expansion of technology we needed something which could connect us to any part of the world with our computer systems and VOIP is the answer to it. People say necessity is the mother of creation; VOIP is the result of that. VOIP is also known as Voice Over Internet Protocol. Other terminologies include broadband telephony, broadband phone, Internet telephony, etc. Whatever the name they do the same function that is to send voice signals over Internet protocol. VOIP protocols are those protocols that are used to send signals over the IP network.
The question here is why to use VOIP when we can talk to our friends on the regular phone also. Every coin has two sides, advantages & disadvantages, you need to take the heavier side. Advantages here include lower cost function, mobility, data transfer along with voice transfer, etc. Money is the greatest motivator and in this case, also the biggest factor is the low cost functionality. Cost savings are done due to utilization of single network to carry data as well as voice. The biggest plus point is that users having existing underutilized network capacity can take advantage of VOIP for almost no additional cost.
Functionality is also one of the deciding factors in case of VOIP. It facilitates tasks that are almost impossible to do via the traditional phone. Mobility proves the best feature provided by VOIP. You can take your VOIP phone with you on vacation. It crosses the barriers of borders or countries. The pure and simple fact is that where you have Internet connection or satellite range you have VOIP.
Talking about some of the drawbacks this technology has, we can dig only a few of them. One of the biggest drawbacks with respect to mobility is the electricity connection. You cannot make calls during a power outage. Again, one shortcoming is the availability of free network connection. In spite of a few problems or shortcomings as seen by specialist, industry forces have declared that traditional phone network will be replaced by the next generation telephone technology that is VOIP.
